Japan 5.22.2012

Rod had to go to Japan to conduct a retreat for the Japanese Zija distributors and he asked me to go with him. This was my first time in Japan so I was more than happy to go with him. We flew out of Salt Lake City through Seattle on Monday, May 21st and landed in Tokyo on May 22. The time difference was 15 hours so we arrived in the late afternoon. We went through the customs and got on a bus that got us to the Tokyo Station. From there we found our Ryumeikan hotel which was a few blocks from the station. It was raining cats and dogs that night so we were pretty drenched when we got to the hotel.  Luckily I had brought my umbrella so I was dragging my 60 lb. suitcase behind me while carrying a briefcase with 2 laptops in it and trying to stay dry at the same time. We finally got to our lovely room, dropped off the luggage and started our exploration of Tokyo.

Sweat in the bottle? This turned out to be my favorite drink.

We took the Yamato Green Line that is a circle line so you can't get lost on it to Shibuya. Rod knew an excellent sushi bar that had a conveyor belt running through the bar so we wanted to find it.

A famous meeting place at the Shibuya station by the Hachiko wall.

Shibuya was a happening and busy place. Very exciting.

The scenery above the umbrellas.  90% of the umbrellas were clear which is very smart because there are so many people walking around that if you didn't have a clear umbrella you would bump into people all the time.  Guess what color was my umbrella? Yes, black.

In Shibuya trying to stay dry.

We walked through the whole Shibuya are but couldn't find the sushi bar.  We asked some locals who actually spoke English where we could find some sushi with a conveyor belt and they directed us to the Sebu department store. It was on the 8th floor and we found it quickly.

While we waited for our turn to go into the restaurant, I noticed that there was some Puwater available. Not sure I wanted to taste it.

Waiting to get into the popular sushi bar.

One of the sushi chefs in the restaurant. This was truly a dinner and a show. The chefs put on a show and were very loud. We didn't understand a word they were saying. Right next to us sat a couple who were so helpful and wrote down special orders in Japanese for the chefs to make for us.  Such nice people all around.

This is what you get when you don't take a sleeping pill on the flight and watch movies while your wife sleeps so she doesn't have any jet lag. I was hesitant to wake him up at our stop. Maybe I should have left him on the train going round and round and come back and wake him up in the morning.
