Riitta's 50th Birthday in Las Vegas

My sister Riitta and her fiance Sampsa flew to Las Vegas on June 16th for a week to celebrate her 50th birthday. We wanted to tag along for a weekend of fun.

Sampsa and Riitta, just moments before we hooked up on Friday night.

Riitta and I on Friday night at the Venetian hotel, just walking around.

Saturday:

Riitta having a pedicure at the Canyon Ranch Spa. She was in need of major help.

Sitting side-by-side we got our toes and feet fixed.

We joke about Riitta's toes that she can never stand in one place too long because somebody might come and park their bike between her toes, that's how huge of a gap there is between her toes.

All done. So pretty. Ready to go shopping.

While Rod went golfing, Riitta, Sampsa and I went shopping at the outlet stores. The day was very successful for them.

Sampsa wanted to go to the Motley Crue, Poison and New York Dolls concert on Saturday night. It was held at the Red Rock Casino in Summerlin. I got tickets, and we all went.

I didn't recognize very many songs all night. I wish I had brought a book, but people watching was priceless so that compensated the fact that how bored I was.

Tommy Lee is strapped into his drumset and he goes on a rollercoaster ride while playing his drums. Pretty amazing.

After the concert we went to the Venetian hotel to get a bite to eat before going to bed. I think it is June 19th in Finland so HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIITTA!!!

Birthday celebrations are serious business. Whatever you do, just don't smile.

Sunday, June 19th:

We drove to Hoover Dam at 10am so it wouldn't be too hot. It was hot, still. +35 C in the shade.

Rod, Sampsa and Riitta with the new bridge in the background. Riitta is afraid of heights so she didn't get too close to the edge.

It was super windy. I almost lost my hat.

Wishing Riitta happy birthday at Hoover Dam.

Went to visit the Dam store. Rod found some alien glasses.

Riitta found some wine bottle glasses. You look Marvelous, Darling!

Kippis! We headed to Aria for brunch. Sampsa and Riitta are drinking champagne to celebrate the 50th in good fashion.

Hope you had a memorable birthday, Riitta. Once again, all together, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Let's do this again in 50 years.

Alex's Sweet 16 Birthday

We celebrated Alex's 16th birthday on June 10 and traditionally a birthday boy/girl gets breakfast in bed but because Rod was traveling that morning and we had a house full of relatives, Alex chose IHOP instead.

Birthday Sundae for the birthday boy. Happy 16th Alex!

Sunday came along and it was time to ordain Alex as a priest (16-18 year old boys).

Zija Alaska Cruise - Day 8 Arrival into Seattle

We arrived into Seattle on Sunday morning around 7am. We said our good-byes to the Japanese distributors and promised them to come visit in the spring.

Waving good-bye.

Zija Alaska Cruise - Day 7 - Victoria, B.C.

We cruised all of day 7 until we got to Victoria, B.C around 7pm on Saturday night. We were baffled, why it took so long to get there. Just looking outside and seeing that we were possibly going about 5 miles an hour, all day, made us mad that we didn't have more time in the beautiful city of Victoria. The sun was setting, the stores were closing and drunken people were out in hoards by the time we got there.

This cruise ship passed us!! What!! Step on it, Captain!

Same spot

Us and that building

The Empress hotel. We were going to have high tea there but then decided to go get root beer float and some dessert, instead.

So, on the grounds of the Empress hotel, there were these beautiful and huge Azalea bushes and I wanted Rod to take my picture with the flowers. Instead, he zoomed in and you can hardly see the flowers.

Then I said, where are the flowers after looking at the picture.

This is where I roll my eyes at him for missing the flowers from the first pictures.

And then I can't do anything else but laugh at him. Silly Rod, the photographer. He blamed me for losing his photography talent because he used to take all the pictures before. Who is telling him not to carry a camera at all times? Not me. Have at it Rod. Anytime.

Good-bye Victoria. Now, let's go eat. Who's in for the dessert plate at midnight?
