Our 2-week European trip started with a pit stop in New York City. We took a red-eye and arrived in NYC at 6am. We had a whole day in NYC to spend any way we liked it. This was Jake's (Alex's best friend) first time in New York, so we decided to hit the major attractions.

We took a taxi from JFK straight to the Empire State Building. Because the building was not open yet when we got there, we had a little breakfast at Starbucks before we went in.

Early, early morning overlooking downtown NYC.

Marja, Rod and Alex enjoying our first day of our trip.

It got really windy.

Alex likes the Empire State Building, for sure.

Alex, Rod and Jake at Times Square

Our family at Times Square. We didn't see the naked cowboy.

Alex in Nike heaven at Niketown.

Ground Zero.

Who is this bum in the park? Rod taking a nap on the Esplanade near Ground Zero.

Alex sleeping so deeply that we almost couldn't wake him up.

Jake also wanted to take a nap. We still had hours to go before our red-eye to London.

Rod got the brilliant idea that we should take a taxi to Chelsea Piers so they could go hit some golf balls at the driving range. Here Rod is fulfilling his lifelong dream.

Alex hitting balls as well.

Jake said that this was his favorite thing to do throughout the whole travel.
Tomorrow we will find ourselves in London, England. Hope I can sleep on the plane. Yeah, right!

How nice to know that you guys are back! I'm also surprised to see how much Alex has grown ... He is almost the same height of Rod... = )
