Kentucky Comes to Utah

It was Joe and John's spring break in Kentucky and the whole family decided to come to Utah to experience the fun with the Larsen's. The Davis' arrived on Friday night late and I had made snowmobiling reservations at Daniel's Summit at 8am on Saturday morning. It was going to be a 4-hour tour.

Just arrived at Daniel's Summit and Alex and Joe are cracking jokes already.

It looks like John and Joe are little chilly. What? They don't have snow in Kentucky?

Alright boys, settle down.

Beautiful Amy is up and awake and ready to be a snowmobiling bunny.

Joe putting his gear on while Amy is wondering what to choose from the rack of clothes.

Yes, I have arms growing out of my head.

Alex is ready.

That's right boys. Stay away from the yellow snow.

The snow had melted a lot during the warm spell but we were hoping that when we headed out, there would still be some snow.

John and Joe are inspecting the snowmobiles

Alex looks like a pro even though he has never done this before.

Robbie with his separated shoulder is going to attempt snowmobiling.

Alex is riding up and down the hill.

Joe is doing the same.

John didn't go off the trail.

Robbie and Amy

Rod and Marja

Robbie and Amy taking a little break.

Alex is like an old pro. Totally knows what he is doing.

Marja and Amy. Good friends.

Rod and Robbie.

And then it started. Joe got stuck in deep snow. The guys had to go dig him out.

Still digging but they finally got him out.

Beautiful Saturday morning.

Alex and Joe walking back from the forest.

If Joe only knew at this point what was going to happen next.

The whole gang.

Next hill was a little steeper and longer than the previous one. Rod, Alex and Joe rode this up and down over and over.

Alex heading up the hill.

And then Joe hits a tree and bushes. He quickly jumps off the sled and shows us thumbs up that he is okay. Robbie is running to his son's rescue.

Rod is laughing so hard because it wasn't but 5 minutes when Joe got stuck in the deep snow.

Rod's taking his jacket off so he can get down to business of pulling the sled out of the trees.

Some of those poor trees were harmed during this filming.

Finally the sled was pulled out

and the tour continued...

Until 5 minutes later Rod is straddling a tree with his sled. Oh GEEZ! This time, the sled was so deep in the snow that you couldn't just lift it up. You had to really dig deep down because one of the skis was totally buried.

Luckily a couple of guys who were passing by stopped to help and they got the sled out of the snow. And we were back on the trail....

Until Joe hops on his sled right by where Rod got stuck and gets his sled stuck in a tree and deep snow, AGAIN!!!

I think this is where Robbie was telling Joe what an idiot he was. The sled was dug out and I told the boys and Rod not to get off the trail anymore.  We only had 4 hours to spend and we had burned 2 already by getting stuck constantly.  At this point we had gone maybe 5 miles and we had 20 more to go.

While the guys were pulling Joe's sled out, John was entertaining himself by sliding down the hill on his stomach.

Rod, the Peter Pan? No, he is the snowball target for boys.

Saturday night we all came to our house to watch the NCAA basketball semifinals. Kentucky was playing Louisville, and Kentucky won 69-61. We are all wearing our Kentucky blue gear.

Rod in his favorite TV watching position.

On Sunday, I left early to meet Amy in Park City so we could go to the Waldorf-Astoria Spa. We both got a massage and then met the men and boys for lunch at the Zoom restaurant at downtown Park City.

Delicious relaxing lunch at the Zoom.

My hair is up because it got so greasy during the massage.

After Sunday lunch, we drove the Davis' around Park City and Salt Lake. It was such a lovely afternoon and evening.  Of course we had to take them to Kentucky Fried Chicken to prove that the first store was in Salt Lake City, UT.
Proof, Robbie. Do you believe us now?

On Monday afternoon Alex and I drove to Park City to pick up Amy and the boys so we can go to Buffalo Wild Wings in Lehi to watch the NCAA Championship game Kentucky vs. Kansas.

We ordered about 90 wings. John and Joe are enjoying their wings.

Not counting but I think Alex beat everyone again in wing eating contest.

Watching the game and eating wings.

Amy and Marja, done eating wings.

Davis' are celebrating the Kentucky victory.

Kentucky beat Kansas 67-59.
Tomorrow our friends leave to go back to Kentucky. We are going to miss them so much. Luckily we will see them on the Alaskan cruise in July, if not sooner.
