Zija Alaska Cruise - Day 6 - Day at Sea

These pictures are actually not true, although we were tanning on the deck during the day of day 6, this is not where were sitting. These pictures are from the first day at sea. As you can see, it was very warm and not frigid like you would think of Alaska weather. Day 6 was the same. Upper 70s, low 80s.

Zija Alaska Cruise - Day 5 - Skagway

Small town of Skagway greeted us on the 5th day of our cruise. We actually really liked this tiny town that looked ancient from the 1900s.

Then it was time to hop on the train and travel 20 miles up the mountain to the Canadian border and come back.

I dressed like a lumberjack just for this occasion. People! You have to plan your outfits so you can fit in with the locals. Come to think of it, I don't think we saw any locals.

We saw a bear...and mountain goats.

This man was the "Brakeman". We were going down the hill and obviously he was in our section and not using the brakes, so we had to ask him:"Hey brakeman, if you are here, who is pushing on the brakes?" He didn't find it funny. Could it be that he had heard it before? He had no sense of humor.

We survived.

Zija Alaska Cruise - Day 4 afternoon - Juneau

We arrived into Juneau early afternoon of the 4th day. We had an excursion purchased but it wasn't until later in the day. We decided to walk into town and go up the tram to look at the sights.

It was gorgeous up there. Not just this man, but the scenery, as well.

In the evening we went for a whale watching excursion.

Whale. We either saw the same whale four time or four different whales. We will never know.

Sea lion. I didn't actually see this little buddy because I was eating inside the catamaran.

Zija Cruise - Day 4 morning - Tracy Arm

6am of the 4th day we were on the front deck taking in the amazing scenery of the Tracy Arm. This is the place where the glacier is calving and the ice is crashing into the ocean. Unfortunately we didn't get all the way to the glacier because it was still so early in the season and the icebergs were everywhere. Didn't want to have the repeat of 1912.


Japanese are leaning into the wind. It was cold and it was windy.

This is the furthest we got. As you can see, the icebergs, great and small, were everywhere.

Right before we turned around and headed to Juneau for the afternoon.

It was definitely worth waking up so early to see this.

Zija Cruise - General Scenery

Let's pause for a minute and admire some of the beautiful and amazing scenery that we witnessed along the way to Juneau. This is the evening of the 3rd day as we left Ketchikan on the way to Tracy Arm and then into Juneau.
